InfoPath Digital Signature

A friend posted an inquiry:

I want to add digital signature at digital signature line of the Infopath2010 form through Sharepoint2010 browser without open it in Infopath2010 and I also want to make workflow status as approved after sign the form. Do you have any Idea how can I do that?

Initially, we need to met the following requirements:

  • The digital signature is valid. The status of a certificate checked against a certificate authority’s database and found to belegitimate, current, and not expired or revoked.
  • The certificate associated with the digital signature is current or is not expired.
  • The signing person or organization, known as the publisher, is trusted. The default setting of a certificate Inherit Trust from Issuer.
  • The certificate associated with the digital signature is issued to the publisher by a trusted certificate authority (CA).

Once we met the above requirements, we could now insert the Digital Signature component in a section of our InfoPath form.

Then, we could digitally sign a specific section of the form by affixing a signature image, and selecting an appropriate certificate.

If we encounter an issue where we can’t sign, as illustrated below, we need to install the InfoPath 2010 KB2596555 available at  http://support.microsoft.com/kb/2584066

Moreover, if we want to make workflow status as approved after sign the form. I would recommend to use the Collect Signature Workflow. It lets us collect digital signatures for a file stored in SharePoint server. A releted reference is available at: http://office.microsoft.com/en-us/sharepoint-server-help/how-to-collect-signatures-RZ010262907.aspx?section=2.

Thanks for the inquiry and I hope this helps.
